Carl Størmer has done what most people dream of–combined two of his greatest passions–jazz and business–to create a successful, highly sough after business. Jazzcode AS, a consulting and entertainment firm, est. in 2005, specializes in improvisational collaboration and structured communication, offers training for high-performance teams in communication, innovation, and creativity in business and collaboration. Carl, a founding prinicipal of Jazzcode, often brings in musicians to illustrate how jazz musicians collaborate in real-time and then draws the parallels for professional teams.
Before he started JazzCode in 2004, Carl was the Director of Marketing at Norwegian Airshuttle, one of Europe’s largest low-cost carriers which he helped to take public. He was the co-founder and executive vice president of StudentUniverse Inc., the leading U.S. online student travel agency (acquired by Flight Centre). Before founding StudentUniverse in 1999, Carl worked as a senior strategy consultant for IBM Global Services since 1995, specializing in electronic distribution. He founded “The Real Thing”, Norway’s most popular jazz groups and worked as a professional jazz musician in New York and Norway between 1991-95. He spent five years working as a database designer for Weill, Gotshal & Manges in New York between 1997-1992.
