Most Swedes are familiar with the international diplomat and former Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs. His career is pretty remarkable. Jan Eliasson was the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations from 2012 – 2016, and was elected President of the United Nations General Assembly for its sixtieth session 2005-2006.
During his years in the UN he has been a mediator in the Iran/Iraq conflict, in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as in Darfur Sudan. He has been active for the UN in countries such as Somalia, Mozambique and the Balkans. He has a profound interest in water issues, in particular for the developing world, and was the first chairman of Water Aid, Sweden.
It is an honour to have Jan Eliasson as one of our Keynote speakers for the Gather 2020 program.
